Location
We are very pleased to be using a classroom in Terrace Road Elementary School. Our children love going to a “real” school and enjoy the benefits such as access to the gymnasium and a big playground.

Who are the Teachers?
Our high caliber, caring, and experienced professionals are part of what makes us special. Gwen, who teaches our three year olds, joined us June 2002. Gwen has a B.Ed. in Elementary Education. She has been on the UHNS Executive, and has many years experience with preschool children. Our four year olds are taught by Tenshy.
Tenshy has a Bachelor in Education with a Major in Early Childhood Education and speaks Spanish as well.
Tenshy has many years of experience working with children under her philosophy of love and patience.
What does the UHNS program offer?
The goal of our program is to provide maximum opportunities for the child to develop his/her potential: social, emotional, physical, aesthetic and intellectual. Our program is based primarily on play oriented activities.
During “centre time” children choose from arts and crafts, water or sand table, puzzles, book corner and floor toys such as vehicles , dolls, kitchen, building toys, play dough, puppets, dress-up. Activities rotate with our monthly themes. We join together for circle times, snack, singing, gym or playground activities.
How is UHNS run?
The executive of UHNSA is elected from the member’s families (moms and dads) and works closely with the teachers and other parents to ensure that the programs are as fulfilling for your child as possible.
Parents are expected to volunteer for positions on the UHNSA executive or as committee members doing different jobs.
We find working closely with the teachers and parents makes a very rewarding experience for both you and you child.
Are parents involved in the classroom?
In addition to a teacher, parents join each class to assist with the children’s
activities, having parents in
each class satisfies the Social Services requirements. Families are required
to supply an adult helper for their child on a rotating basis. Typically
this means volunteering once or twice per month. Parents will also take
turns providing a nourishing snack for the class.
Parents or other family
members with a special interest or talent are encouraged to enrich our class
whenever they can. Our children benefit from our involvement. Seeing us
as part of their school gives them a sense of community and security.
